ESP32 mainboard for WROOM-32 38 pins

ESP32 mainboard for 38 pin module

Our ESP32 mainboard (KS-SBOB-ESP32-R1.1) is designed to seat ESP32-WROOM-32U and ESP32-WROOM-32D 38 pin modules featuring the dual-core version of the Xtensa LX6 microprocessor. It is targeted at functional custom assemblies where modularity and professional features are more important than cost optimization for mass production. This makes them ideal for makers who want to replace generic break-out boards with well protected power inputs and extended GPIO and ADC inputs. At the same time it avoids placing generic peripherals such as relays, LAN or opto-couplers on the board since the later are not always needed and many extension boards exist for exactly this purpose.

The board includes the following extra features:
- PCF8574 GIO expander
- ADS1115 16bit 4-channel ADC with extra 5V precision voltage reference and noise shielding for precise analog sensor measurements
- 8 channel level shifting / voltage translation IC for working with 5V sensor signals
- 3 separate power supply (2x 5VDC and 1x 7-12VDC) inputs with OVP, UVP, RP, surge protection, noise filters
- extra header for LAN module at the back of the board using ESP32 integrated LAN with support for cables to provide flexibility to mount the LAN port in other sections of the housing

ESP32 and special IC pins are routed to professional plugable terminal blocks allowing to unplug peripherals without detaching modules and have the following default assignments:

  • SPI 2 ports (port 1 [SPI based LAN W5500] and DAC channels 1&2, SPI port 2)
  • I2C 4 ports (1, 2 & 3 [3V3], I2C port 4 [5V])
  • UART 1 port (ESP UART2, 3V or 5V TTL)
  • ESP32 ADC 4 ports (1, 2, 3, 4 [3V])
  • ADS1115 ADC 4 ports (1, 2, 3, 4 [5V])
  • Digital I/O header 8 channels
  • 14 pin LAN header for LAN8720 module with patch support

In addition all 38 pins of the ESP32 module can be accessed by a standard pin header.
